Come join us on our weekly spotlight tours, every Saturday from 10:30- 11:00 am. This month we will be highlighting Contemporary Native American Art. Come see the contemporary Native American Art found throughout our permanent and temporary exhibits.

June Weekend Arts Activities:

Bison and Art from the Great Plains

Every Saturday from 11:00AM-12:00 PM and Sunday from 12:30PM-1:30PM

The month of June will feature the bison, The bison is a prominent figure in the culture of many Native Peoples, especially on the Great Plains. The bison plays an important role as a source of food, shelter, and material, but it is also central to the spiritual and ethnic identity of many Plains Peoples. This month's activities will include bison puppet, parfleche, and ledger art projects for all ages.


Saturday, June 18 Exhibit Opening:

“Contemporary Native Women.”

Opening June 18, guest exhibit curators Arlene Hirschfelder and Paulette Molin (Anishinaabe, White Earth), two prominent humanities authors and museum consultants will guide visitors on a journey of social justice through twelve inspiring and empowering indigenous women who fearlessly changed the course of history in fields from the violence against women to clean water rights. See images of the work of these twelve women, look at their personal items, hear their impassioned voices and watch videos of pivotal moments breaking new ground for women everywhere. The day's events will include:

1:00 PM -  Welcoming reception
2:00-3:00 - Exhibit tour by guest curators Arlene Hirschfelder and Paulette Molin.
3:00-4:30 - Panel discussion “Opening Doors to Change.”

Event is included in regular museum admissions.
