The Mitchell's Collections
The Mitchell Museum of the American Indian houses over 10,000 objects carefully stored and monitored. While many objects are on display, even more are in storage to be documented and preserved for use by researchers and in future exhibitions and programs.
Access to the collections is by appointment only with the museum’s curator during the following hours: Tuesday – Saturday 10 am – 5 pm.
The museum’s original mission is to collect, preserve, and interpret American Indian culture from North America of the Paleo-Indian period to the present. We have since limited the geographic scope to regions north of Mexico. The collection contains a wide range of materials including basketry, pottery, lithics, clothing and regalia, paintings and drawings, jewelry, rugs, katsinas, dolls, games and sports, fetishes, bead work, quill work, shields, weapons, and carvings.
